Chess Set Project 02 aims to explore the value of chess beyond its roles as a collection and a board game. Through a complete redesign of its appearance, the addition of refined details, and a more compact size than conventional sets, this chess set is more suited to contemporary contexts of portability and hands-on interaction.

Birdtopia hopes to use chess as a medium for leisure, presenting a chessboard filled with various birds in an almost humorous manner, and offering emotional value beyond winning or losing.

Each chess piece has a small magnet embedded in its base, ensuring stable attachment to the board even on uneven surfaces such as soft seating.

  • The board unfolded with all chess pieces fully set in place.

  • By pulling the drawstring, the board can be quickly folded, eliminating the need for additional organization or separate storage of the chess pieces.

  • Once folded, the chess set functions as a small handheld bag, making it easy to store and carry during commuting and in other everyday scenarios.
